Research Interests/Ideas

My research interests consist of minorities and the way they are represented by the media. I am also interested in learning more about the representation of these particular individuals as it relates to disabilities.  After doing some preliminary research about both topics of interest, I believe that the representation of minorities, and those minorities who have a disability, is lacking as a positive spectrum in the media. 

There are several methodologies that could be considered for my research topic. The first methodology could be a content analysis of the coverage of minorities as either a positive or negative spectrum in various media outlets. The second methodology could be a survey completed by minorities with disabilities and their perception of how the media covers their race and issue of disability.
